Sky Sports have named their top 100 footballers for 2017
This list is sure to cause some debate
Those expecting a changing of the guard at the top of football’s pantheon of great players were left disappointed when Cristiano Ronaldo scooped the two biggest individual prizes football has to offer.
The Real Madrid star won FIFA’s The Best award and followed that up by claiming the Ballon d’Or earlier this month.
So we’ll have to wait another year to see if anyone can replace Ronaldo and Lionel Messi at the top.
There are many waiting in the wings, including Neymar and Eden Hazard, but evidence, particularly from Messi this season, suggests they might have to wait some time before they can be considered number one.
But according to Sky Sports, Ronaldo shouldn’t be viewed among the top three players in the world right now.
Sky Sports' top 100
In their list of the top 100 players in 2017, they listed the Portugal international in fourth place, one spot above Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen.
Also included on the list are Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, Marco Asensio and even Bournemouth’s Joshua King.
