Baggies confirm Davenport link-up

West Brom are assessing Calum Davenport's medical condition with a view to helping him with his rehabilitation as he looks for a route back into the game after suffering serious stab wounds to both legs.

However, it has been confirmed there are no plans by the Coca-Cola Championship promotion hopefuls to offer him a contract and the possibility of any venture between the two parties is in its very early days.

Centre-back Davenport is now a free agent having left West Ham by mutual consent only last week, the club he joined from Tottenham for an undisclosed fee in January 2007.

It was initially feared the 27-year-old would never play again after the well-documented domestic incident at his family home back in August of last year.

And although he is still not ready to start full training, the signs are more optimistic that he will be able to resume his career.

A court trial in relation to the incident is due to start on August 2.
