2017 is almost over, and with 2018 just around the corner, WWE wants to start off the new year with a bang, so they have booked an amazing match for the first Monday Night Raw of the new year with an interesting stipulation. This past week on WWE's red brand, Roman Reigns put his Intercontinental Championship on the line against Samoa Joe, however, the match ended in disqualification after something which The Big Dog did.During the match, Reigns was unloading hits onto Joe in one of the corners of the ring. The official started the count to get the Intercontinental Champion to stop holding the ropes during his hold on his challenger, but The Big Dog decided not to and shoved the official away instead. This resulted in a disqualification for Reigns, giving The Destroyer the win in the match, but the Intercontinental title did not change hands. Raw general manager Kurt Angle now wants to make sure this ending doesn't happen the second time these two face each other.Angle announced on his Twitter that Reigns will once again put his Intercontinental Championship on the line against Joe, except this time around, if The Big Dog gets disqualified, he will not only lose the match but his title as well.

This is a very interesting situation as it could result in one of either Reigns or Joe losing clean, which is something we haven't seen that often for either superstar on WWE television. This match will certainly be exciting to watch, just to see how it plays out.

Reigns reacted to the announcement of the match on WWE's Instagram. As you can see in the video below, the Intercontinental Champion said: "It's Kurt's job to make the rules. It's my job to defend this," he then held up his Intercontinental title.

Looking ahead to next week's Raw, it's difficult to see WWE taking the Intercontinental title off Reigns at this point when you consider The Shield has essentially just split up again with Dean Ambrose being out of action for approximately nine months.

Reigns should be coming out on top against Joe despite the stipulation, but we'll have to wait until Raw next week to find out. This match should be a good indication as to what WWE has planned for these two superstars at the Royal Rumble in 2018 and beyond as well.
