Manchester United slipped to third in the Premier League table on Saturday after being held to a 0-0 draw by Southampton at Old Trafford.

The hosts enjoyed more possession, however they were unable to get the all-important breakthrough against a team that was destroyed Tottenham on Boxing Day.

Jose Mourinho cut a frustrated figure on the United bench, Henrikh Mkhitaryan was named in the starting XI but failed to impress, while top scorer Romelu Lukaku was stretchered off.

Man Utd travel to Lukaku's former club Everton on New Year's Day, however they may potentially do so without one of their most experienced and versatile players; Ashley Young.

That is because a number of football fans on social media are highlighting what the 32-year-old did to Southampton's Dusan Tadic - and they want him banned for it.

What Young did to Tadic during 0-0 draw

Early in the second half, Man United were defending a set-piece from Mauricio Pellegrino's dogged and determined side when Young was tasked with marking Tadic.

The pair were standing on United's goal-line, even behind 'keeper David de Gea, and, as you'd expect from an attacking player in the opposition's box, Tadic was making a nuisance of himself.

However, Young took drastic action to deal with the 29-year-old Serbian, and as you can see below, he planted a forceful, nasty elbow into the mid-section of the Saints playmaker.

Fans react on Twitter

Once a video of the incident emerged, viewers weren't just angry with BT Sport for not making a bigger deal of it, but they were asking the FA how many matches Young should be banned for.

This comes just weeks after Burnley's in-form centre-back James Tarkowski picked up a three-match ban for an act incredibly similar to Young's elbow on Tadic.

Twitter was furious with United's winger-turned-full-back - here is the best of the reaction:

After Lukaku's injury during the game, and Mourinho revealing Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be out for a month afterwards, the last thing Man United need right now is a retrospective ban for Young.
