Manchester United’s hopes of catching Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title are now effectively over following their 0-0 draw against Southampton this evening.Jose Mourinho’s side failed to break down Mauricio Pellegrini’s team, who haven’t won a league fixture since beating Everton back in November and conceded five goals against Tottenham on Boxing Day.Following their stalemate, United now find themselves third in the Premier League table, one point behind Chelsea and 14 behind City, who will make that 17 points if they defeat Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday. On hand to analyse where United went wrong was one of the club’s all-time greats: Paul Scholes. The United legend was heavily critical of Mourinho - like many of the club’s fans have been this evening - but he also reserved some special criticism for the team’s most expensive player.

Scholes drops truth bomb about Pogba

Paul Pogba was one of a host of multi-million superstars who started against the Saints, along with the likes of Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Romelu Lukaku, who was forced off in the first half with a head injury.

And Scholes said what many United fans must have been thinking about Pogba following his disappointing performance tonight.

“Where’s the Paul Pogba we saw at Juventus?” Scholes questioned, live on BT Sport. “He’s all over the pitch, he’s tackling, he’s fighting, he’s sprinting to people, he’s scoring goals from 25 yards out.

“He’s just strolling through the game.”

Reaction to Scholes' comment about Pogba

Now let’s see how Twitter has reacted to Scholes’ brutally honest comment about Pogba…

Pogba is capable of so much more

In fairness to the French midfielder, he has produced some outstanding moments for the Red Devils since re-joining the club last summer.

But in order to prove that he’s one of the world’s truly great players, he should be taking matches like this by the scruff of the neck and winning points single-handedly.
