Deontay Wilder's reputation as one of the most feared men in boxing may be well deserved, but he has undermined some of that ferocious image with an illogical social media post that has drawn ridicule for its questionable use of the English language. The WBC heavyweight champ posted a video of himself on Instagram throwing some terrifying punches during padwork, before sitting down to face the camera and menacingly proclaiming that he is the best.“I’m the best, no one will beat me.“I’m half human, half hybrid – I’m an extraterrestrial species.”The definition of “hybrid” is something that is a mixture of two things: half of one and half of another, meaning it's impossible to be 'half human' and 'half hybrid' as Wilder suggested. This comically inaccurate assertion did not go unnoticed by fans who were quick to make fun of the 32-year-old champ“You do realise that hybrid means 50/50 don't you?” one asked.“So you're half human and half 50/50?”Another added: “Half hybrid… you need a dictionary mate.”And a third wrote: “You never should have put this up – it’s embarrassing.”

Other responses were a touch more unsavory as fans did not miss the chance to poke fun at the giant American, who is currently preparing for a March bout with unbeaten Cuban Luiz Ortiz, before he hopes to set his sights on British hero Anthony Joshua.

The heavyweight scene is looking healthier than it has for many years and fight fans are anticipating some blockbuster showdowns for 2018.

Wilder v AJ is the fight everybody wants to see, but the supporting cast including a rejuvenated Tyson Fury and WBO champion Joesph Parker make this a a very exciting era for the behemoths of boxing.

Wilder, despite his devastating power, would be best advised to check with a dictionary before future posts if he wants to avoid further derision for some ill advised trash talking.
