Felipe Massa has said that Mercedes-AMG will be fully behind four-time world champion Lewis Hamilton for the 2018 Formula one season.

The Brazilian retired from F1 this year following a career which spanned over a decade - he was active from 2004 to 2017.

Whilst the Brazilian did not win a Drivers' Championship title in his entire career, Williams', the 36-year-old’s final F1 team, performance chief Rob Smedley was glowing in his praise for the Brazilian super star, telling Autosport.com that Massa was ending his career on top.

"Look how he's finished, he's finished absolutely on a high.

"He's had 16 years in this paddock, either being extremely competitive at the level where he was going to win a world championship, or being as competitive as he could be in the car that was given to him.

"To go out at the top of your game, still delivering for the team, still giving them points, still having that extra special lap in qualifying, there's no better way to go out.

"He's such a popular guy, and that's a measure of him."

With a glowing reference from Williams and Smedley following a 16-year career, what does Massa think about what awaits the 32-year-old Lewis Hamilton in 2018, who won his fourth world title this year.

"For 2018, the team is completely on his side 100%," Massa said.

"So he has no issue with his teammate like he had maybe before [with Nico Rosberg].

"So many things are really on his side and he can just make himself better and better all the time.
"Hamilton did the perfect job.

"He had some little issues in some races at the beginning of the season.

"He was just not on the pace and struggling with some stuff around the car, but I think they sorted it out.

"He is really doing an amazing job and having fun racing. So he is just getting the best out of it.

"He deserves everything that he has managed to achieve.

"[In 2017], he made himself into a driver who has nothing to lose compared to any driver in history."
