Kristaps Porzingis has taken on the role of franchise player for the New York Knicks this season and has excelled so far.

Despite his young age, the Latvian has taken on the responsibility impressively and has embraced being the leader of a youthful team.

He's averaging 23.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game this season and is quickly developing into one of the best players in the league.

You can vote for your favourite players as NBA All-Stars every day HERE. Voting closes on January 15th.

With these terrific numbers, the power forward looks certain to earn his first All-Star appearance this year.

Porzingis will surely be a perennial All-Star throughout his career and the showpiece event in Los Angeles next month should be his first taste alongside the game's elite.

In the early fans votes, the Knicks big man is currently fourth among all frontcourt players in the Eastern Conference behind Giannis Antetokounmpo, LeBron James, and Joel Embiid.

If it stays like this, the 22-year-old will miss out on being a starter on his debut but he is more than likely to be selected as a reserve by the coaches and he's confident he'll get a chance to take his talents to L.A. next month either way.

"I think with all the different things that I've seen this season from coaches, the double teams and all that, I do believe the coaches are paying a lot of attention to me. Hopefully in their eyes I deserve to get that spot," Porzingis said, per CBS Sports.

With the organization's decision to trade Carmelo Anthony prior to the start of the season, KP's role immediately increased and he's taken on a significant workload for New York as the sole star on the roster.

He says it's a goal of his to become an All-Star but is aware that the honor comes with winning and is keen to earn success with the Knicks which will lead to individual recognition.

"It's a dream of mine to be an All-Star," he said. "Since I got to the NBA that's something I want to achieve individually, but also realizing that's not how you want to be remembered – only as a good individual player.

"All of that will come with winning. If we win we're all going to look good and I'm sure I'm going to be an All-Star."

The men from the Big Apple are in the hunt for a playoff spot this year and with the east lacking real star power, this should be the perfect season for him to get in.

There aren't many players in the conference who have performed better than him so expect him to take to the floor at Staples Center on February 18.
