Name a better way to mark your Liverpool than scoring a late winner against Everton, we'll wait.It seems Kopites are already completely onboard with the arrival of Virgil van Dijk to Anfield after an explosive bow in the Merseyside derby. Aside from a generally imperious defensive performance, his headed goal had Liverpool fans in utter admiration and can you blame them? The excitement around the Dutchman was certainly enhanced by his perfect comments after the match, too."What a night, fully deserved - obviously. It felt amazing to be out there, playing with these guys," Van Dijk reflected. "The goal was very special for me and obviously for my family as well."

The answer to Liverpool's problems

In spite of the £75 million shelled out on Van Dijk, a world record for a defender, you get the impression that fans never doubted the move even if opposition supporters poked fun at the price tag.

Defensive frailties have been a major problem for Liverpool this season with neither of the trio of Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan establishing a consistent run of form.

Van Dijk's sensational start to life on Merseyside certainly shows promise that those problems could start to fade away and the so-called 'Fab Four' of Mohamed Salah, Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane can truly run riot.

Something the 26-year-old also brings to the table, though, is an undoubted passion for the club and it extends beyond his comments in interviews.

A few eagle-eyed Liverpool fans noticed Van Dijk's reaction to the full-time whistle on Friday night and you can see just how much victory meant to the Dutchman.

It's no full-blooded explosion of passion but, for that very reason, it has resonated with Liverpool fans even more.

Take a look at Van Dijk's response and the tweets in reply:

Everybody loved Van Dijk's reaction

There's a rawness and sense of emotion behind the reaction, with a subtle fist pump that suggests a cocktail of joy and relief.

That being said, if the sensational performances in Merseyside derbies became more common, you wouldn't blame or bet against the 26-year-old immersing himself in Kop.

Besides, he won't need many more showings like Friday nights to ensure that he's welcomed with open arms.
