Three players dominated the headlines following Liverpool’s highly-entertaining 2-1 victory over Everton in the FA Cup third. They were Virgil van Dijk, who scored the winner on his debut for the club, and Roberto Firmino and Mason Holgate, who were involved in an altercation that could prompt an investigation from the Football Association. But there’s another player who’s receiving a great deal of attention from Liverpool supporters on social media.Van Dijk was named man of the match but many fans are heaping praise on 23-year-old left-back Andy Robertson, who continues to impress in the first team. His stats are mightily impressive. The Scotland international had 85 touches of the ball, completed 47 out of 53 passes and won five out of his six tackles.Furthermore, he completed three out of four long balls, won both of his aerial duels and recorded a key pass, too.And just look at the passion he displayed while celebrating Van Dijk’s winner.

What Liverpool fans are saying about Robertson

When you mix that energy with the sort of performance that Robertson produced, it results in a stream of positive tweets.

Positive for Robertson, that is. Not for the player he’s replaced in the starting line-up, Alberto Moreno.

The Spaniard hasn’t played since injuring his ankle against Spartak Moscow last month and Robertson has made the most of his opportunity to start.

And Liverpool fans now believe that Robertson should be the club’s first-choice left-back over Moreno.

Moreno was playing well before his injury

It’s worth remembering, though, that for all his flaws, Moreno was enjoying a fine season prior to his injury.

The 25-year-old attributed his upturn in form to a desire to show that he was worthy of a place in Klopp’s startling line-up.

“I’m nearly at my best, but none of this comes without very hard work,” Moreno said in November, per the Liverpool Echo.

“Helping the side has its roots in the sacrifices you make, the hard work in pre-season and the battling to get back in contention.

“All that is because of my desire to be here at Liverpool, one of the best clubs in the world. Playing well leads to happiness on and off the field, for you and your family.”

Klopp will have a big decision to make upon Moreno’s return.
