To think that Arsenal’s two best players could easily leave on a free transfer in just six months time is just crazy.

But that’s a fact as Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are still yet to agree a new deal at the Emirates - and it’s looking increasingly unlikely that they will.

Certainly, it seems as far as the Chilean is concerned, he’s a goner.

Quite when Sanchez will leave the club is unknown.

Will Arsenal take the last opportunity to cash in on him in January or will they keep him until the summer before allowing him to leave for free?

The Gunners have some important decisions to make in the coming weeks.

In fact, according to the Mirror, they may have already made that decision.

SANCHEZ WILL JOIN CITY - ON ONE CONDITION

They’re reporting that Arsene Wenger has decided to allow Sanchez to join Manchester City for £35 million this month.

But there’s one condition - as long as he signs Riyad Mahrez first.

The report states that Wenger’s attentions have turned from Monaco’s Thomas Lemar to Leicester’s Mahrez and the Algerian “would welcome a move to Arsenal.”

The Gunners adopted a similar tactic in the summer with Wenger refusing to let Sanchez join City until a replacement had been signed. On that occasion it was Lemar. However, after a deal fell through on transfer deadline day, Wenger made sure Sanchez couldn’t join Pep Guardiola at the Etihad.

Now, though, Wenger has three weeks to strike a deal with Leicester for Mahrez and, if he manages to do so, Sanchez will finally get his wish and reunite with Guardiola.

Quite how much Arsenal would have to pay to sign Mahrez is unknown. The Mirror have quoted £40 million but it’s bound to cost the north London club a bit more than that.

But, like with Lemar in the summer, Arsenal could face competition from Liverpool.

The Merseyside club are on the lookout for a replacement for Philippe Coutinho after he completed his move to Barcelona for £142 million. While they’re still interested in Lemar - with reports suggesting he’s their top transfer target - they could turn to Mahrez if Monaco refuse to sell.

Arsenal better make their move quickly or else they could be gazumped by Liverpool.
