Liverpool fans are all asking the same question after Philippe Coutinho completed his move to Barcelona - ‘Why are we selling our best player midway through the season?’Well, Jurgen Klopp answered that question by explaining that they had very little choice due to Coutinho’s demands.“It is with great reluctance that we – as a team and club – prepare to say farewell to a good friend, a wonderful person and a fantastic player in Philippe Coutinho,” Klopp admitted.“It is no secret that Philippe has wanted this move to happen since July, when Barcelona first made their interest known.“Philippe was insistent with me, the owners and even his teammates this was a move he was desperate to make happen.”That explanation won’t do much to satisfy Liverpool fans, though. In fact, the only way Liverpool supporters will be feeling any sort of satisfaction from the deal is if the club immediately spend the £142 million they’ve just received.Losing arguably your most important player in the middle of a campaign and failing to replace him would be a spectacularly disastrous decision. So, who could replace Coutinho?Well, two names have been mentioned - Thomas Lemar and Riyad Mahrez.Monaco’s Lemar appears to top of the list and it seems Liverpool supporters would rather see the Frenchman arrive.

SKY SPORTS' REPORT ON LEMAR

However, they have been dealt some bad news by Sky Sports.

On Sunday morning, they produced a report explaining that Liverpool won’t be making a move for Lemar.

They write: “Liverpool's decision to allow Philippe Coutinho to join Barcelona will not bring forward any possible move for Thomas Lemar.”

Oh.

AND THEY SAID THE SAME ABOUT MAHREZ

So Liverpool will sign Mahrez instead, right?

Well, Sky Sports don’t think that will happen either.

In a separate report, they stated: “Liverpool are not interested in signing Riyad Mahrez as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho.”

LIVERPOOL FANS REACT

It's fair to say the latest developments haven't gone down well with Liverpool fans. Check out the reaction on Twitter:

So, according to Sky Sports, Liverpool aren’t interested in Lemar or Mahrez in January.

Kopites will just be praying either Sky Sports are wrong or Klopp has an alternative player lined up.
