Well, Barcelona fans are attempting to answer those questions by bringing up a piece of play from when Liverpool hosted Real Madrid back on Ocotober 22, 2014.

Brendan Rodgers' side suffered a painful loss to the then, and current, Champions League holders, but Coutinho provided a glimpse of his top-class quality that hasn't gone unnoticed.

Liverpool 0-3 Real

Liverpool endured a poor 2014-15 Champions League campaign, finishing in third on just five points behind Basel and Group B winners Madrid.

Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema had Real 3-0 up inside 41 minutes at Anfield just over three years ago, however Coutinho expressed himself in the second half.

Coutinho dances past Madrid's midfield

Picking the ball up in the centre-circle, Coutinho played a one-two with Raheem Sterling but was quickly closed down by Real midfielder Luka Modric.

A quick change of body direction allowed him to evade the Croatian's challenge and he then danced past a helpless Toni Kroos with some quite superb trickery and footwork.

As you can see in the video below (around 3:38), Coutinho had the quality and vision to pop the ball back to Sterling and retain possession before either Modric or Isco could tackle him.

Yes, the match was already lost, but at the age of 22, Coutinho showed that he had the composure, close control and bravery to take on Los Blancos' superstars.

Check out what some Barca fans are now saying about the clip:

Coutinho to shine at Barca?

Whatever you think of the price-tag, Coutinho offers more goals and creativity than Barca's fringe players like Andre Gomes, Denis Suarez, Rafinha and Arda Turan.

Since handing in a transfer request last summer, the Brazilian refocused and played splendidly to register 12 goals and nine assists in 20 matches for Liverpool this season.

If he is able to replicate that form at the Nou Camp, Coutinho could develop into one of the very best players in world football over the coming months and years.
