Now that Philippe Coutinho has completed his move to Barcelona, Liverpool can switch their focus onto more pressing matters.

The main one is searching for a replacement for the mercurial Brazilian, with the general consensus being that the Reds need some reinforcements in January.

Thomas Lemar and Riyad Mahrez have been two names rigorously linked with Anfield in the fallout from Coutinho's move, while Adam Lallana and £40m summer signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are the players already there who could be handed the responsibility.

One other man who is being touted as Coutinho's heir is RB Leipzig's Naby Keita, the man who Liverpool actually signed in the summer for £48m and loaned back to the Bundesliga club for the season.

It all seemed fine that the Guinean midfielder would continue his development in Germany but now, after the Coutinho debacle, there are rumblings that they may try and get him in earlier.

Well, Liverpool have drafted up a new plan in order to try and convince Leipzig.

LIVERPOOL PREPARING KEITA PLAN

The Telegraph report that Keita is now Jurgen Klopp's number one target for January and the Reds are now prepared to increase the fee they paid for the 22-year-old.

In fact, they could add an extra £10m to it, which after receiving £142m from Barcelona, isn't exactly a huge amount in context.

Leipzig are said to be reluctant at this moment in time, but Liverpool remain confident they can convince them, with Keita said to be keen on the early move after the German club were eliminated from the Champions League.

COUTINHO FEE SORTS OUT LIVERPOOL

“We have never been in a better position in recent times, as a club, to react in the right way,” was what Klopp said in response to the Brazilian's departure and in some ways, he's correct.

The combined fees of Virgil van Dijk (£75m), Keita (£48m) and Mohamed Salah (£37m) have effectively been cleared by Coutinho's departure.

He is a truly world-class player and will be hard to replace, but Liverpool can certainly take a lot of positives out of the transfer.
