For the past few weeks, the saga surrounding Philippe Coutinho has had so many twists, a lot of football fans seemingly don't know what to believe. The key facts we all know now is that the Brazilian has indeed left Liverpool and joined Barcelona for a fee of £145m, with his contract running until 2023.There are still a few rumours flying around that need to be quashed but for the most part, the ordeal surrounding Coutinho has drawn to a close. The Blaugrana have completed the most expensive period of spending ever seen in football, with the other high-profile acquisition being Ousmane Dembele, who joined from Borussia Dortmund for around £105m.The deal for the Frenchman was another one full of controversy and it turns out that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had a key part to play in the deal.Well-respected German football journalist Raphael Honigstein has revealed that the Reds boss - who is famous for his success while Dortmund manager - was in contact with his former club, informing them that they would not sell Coutinho in the summer. This then meant that the Bundesliga side knew they could charge a ridiculous price for Dembele, one which had already been inflated by Neymar's crazy £198m move to Paris Saint-Germain.

TWEET: KLOPP'S EARLY REVENGE

Well played Jurgen, well played.

Of course, losing Coutinho now is still a bit of a loss for the German, but Liverpool fans will be happy that he managed to mastermind such a thing.

On the same podcast, Honigstein also mentioned that he feels no player - including Naby Keita - will be able to replace Coutinho, but did say that Liverpool are interested in bringing in Dortmund's Christian Pulisic in the summer.

LIVERPOOL WANT PULISIC

He said: "Pulisic is a player Liverpool have tried to sign and I'll be very surprised if Liverpool don't try heavily for him in the summer, but he's not a replacement, he'll be like Coutinho from 5 years earlier, not ready for the central role. He's more a winger/Number 10.

"Pulisic only has one or two touches and wouldn't be right, even if Dortmund were prepared to sell him, which they aren't, he wouldn't be able to do what Coutinho did."

An interesting insight from an expert.
