Philippe Coutinho has become the most expensive signing in Barcelona’s history after completing his £142 million move from Liverpool.

In fact, the Brazilian is the second most-expensive player ever - until Kylian Mbappe completes his move to Paris Saint-Germain next summer that is.

It was always a matter of time before Coutinho made the move to the Camp Nou ever since the Catalan club started chasing him six months ago.

But Barca might have been well aware of the former Inter Milan player a long time ago.

Coutinho has, in fact, played in Barcelona before.

Whilst at Inter, he spent much of the 2011/12 campaign on loan at Espanyol - Barca’s Catalonia rivals.

And during his time at Espanyol, he actually played in a Catalonia derby against Barcelona.

The match in May 2012 will always be remembered for Lionel Messi scoring all four goals in a 4-0 victory for Barca - and the fact it was Pep Guardiola’s last home match in charge.

But it was also the first time Barca fans caught a glimpse of Coutinho as he was introduced in the 66th-minute.

Coutinho was just 19-years-old but his 25-minute cameo performance was really impressive.

COUTINHO'S DREAM HAS COME TRUE

Six years later and Coutinho is back in Catalonia but now he’s at the club of his dreams.

That’s how the midfielder described his move during his official unveiling on Monday.

“I’m very happy, very happy. I have always said that it is a dream that I am living and I am very happy to be here,” Coutinho told Barça TV.

“To be able to play, win titles, make the fans happy … always play with joy. It is incredible to know that I am going to live with idols; players with a lot of history.

“Footballers like Leo Messi, Luis Suárez, [Andrés] Iniesta, [Gerard] Piqué, [Sergio] Busquets. I am very happy to be able to live together, to be able to learn from them and be able to win together.”
