One of the most highly anticipated fights for UFC in 2018 is a lightweight title unification fight between the UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor and the interim UFC Lightweight Champion Tony Ferguson. As of writing, the fight is yet to be booked, but Dana White has stated on several occasions that McGregor's next fight in UFC will be a unification fight against Ferguson.Recently, the fighting talk between The Notorious and the El Cucuy camps has heated up, with McGregor’s longtime coach and mentor, John Kavanagh, posting a tweet mocking the fighters demanding that the Irishman defends or vacates his title.Unsurprisingly, this tweet by Kavanagh caught the attention of Ferguson, and he used it as an opportunity to hype up his likely unification fight against McGregor.Ferguson responded on Twitter by calling McGregor a ‘p*ssy’, as well as calling his head coach Kavanagh 'small potatoes'.He said: ""190lbs of Pure Awesomeness" Day 2 #TonyFergusonMMA Coming After Yo' Ass @TheNotoriousMMA #DefendorVacate P***y ---> #Vacate Looks Great @ParadigmSM #GP ...And To You @JohnKavanagh You Are Small Potatoes Coach Cavalier... I Can't Wait To Add Your SBG Pin To My Map 🖕🏽😎 Sign It."

Ferguson earned his right to face McGregor at some point in 2018 when he submitted Kevin Lee with a triangle choke hold to win the interim UFC Lightweight title at UFC 216 in October last year.

However, Khabib Nurmagomedov recently threw himself into the UFC Lightweight Championship picture after his impressive win against Edson Barboza at UFC 219 last month. White has pitched the idea that Khabib and Tony could fight against one another while they wait for McGregor to make a decision on his future.

White said during an interview with Yahoo! Sports’ Kevin Iole: “As long as Conor is willing to (book a) fight by March, we could do Khabib versus Tony. We could do Khabib versus Tony, and then the winner fights Conor for the title. Or if Conor doesn’t want to fight and wants to sit out until next fall, then we would have to make Khabib versus Tony for the title, not the interim title.”

Either way, it looks like Ferguson is going to find himself in a fight for the actual UFC Lightweight title soon, with or without McGregor.
