Ten days into the January transfer window and Alexis Sanchez is still an Arsenal player. The Chilean’s contract expires in the summer and Arsenal know that January represents the last opportunity to receive some money for him before he leaves on a free transfer.Like last summer, Manchester City have been heavily linked with a move to the forward and reports suggest they’ve submitted a £20 million bid for him. It’s not like Pep Guardiola really needs him right now, though.City are 15 points clear, through to the last-16 of the Champions League, through to the fourth round of the FA Cup and have one foot in the Carabao Cup final after beating Bristol City 2-1 in the first-leg of their semi-final on Tuesday. And it was after that narrow victory over their Championship opponents that captain for the night, Kevin de Bruyne, was asked about the potential arrival of Alexis Sanchez. While the Belgian’s performance on the pitch was impressive - scoring the equaliser - his performance off the pitch wasn’t quite so good. That’s because he might have let slip that Sanchez is about to join City with the use of the word “when.”

“He’s a very good player,” said de Bruyne. “WHEN he comes, he will add something to the team.

“Obviously we will see what happens in this transfer period. We don’t have to take care about that anyway.

“If a good player comes to us that is better, if he doesn’t come, we do it with the team we have. We are in a good period already, over the whole season. Everybody is doing a good job.”

Of course, English isn’t De Bruyne’s native language and he could have just accidentally said ‘when’ and not ‘if.’

But that didn’t stop plenty of fans - and media outlets - from jumping the gun and claiming De Bruyne may have just hinted at Sanchez’s arrival.

FANS REACT TO DE BRUYNE'S 'WHEN'

Check out the reaction:

Of course, we don’t know if De Bruyne has any inside knowledge. Instead, we’ll just have to wait like every Arsenal and City fan to find out whether Sanchez makes the switch in January - or if he waits until the summer before joining on a free transfer.
