On this week's Monday Night Raw, it looked like Samoa Joe was going to have a very promising couple of months up until WrestleMania 34, but news quickly emerged the following day that extinguished those hopes quickly.

On Raw, after defeating Rhyno, Joe took to the microphone and announced that he was entering the Royal Rumble match at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on January 28. He also stated he would be eliminating John Cena from the match first, sparking a potential future feud between them.

The Samoan Submission Specialist was also in the running to be Bayley's partner for WWE's Mixed Match Challenge. However, although Raw general manager Kurt Angle did announce that Joe had won the vote by fans to be Bayley's partner, he wouldn't be able to compete due to an injury.

WWE released a statement about The Destroyer's injury on their website, stating the injury did occur during his match with Rhyno on Raw.

WWE Senior Ringside Physician Dr. Chris Amann said on Joe's injury: “During his match, [Samoa Joe] felt a pop at the bottom of his [right] foot. We took a look and believe he has a plantar fascia rupture, which is a thick tissue rupture under the foot. We will get an MRI to confirm. Treatment includes a period of immobilization in a boot with crutches and platelet rich plasma injections.”

According to Ringside News, for a plantar fascia rupture, a quick recovery time is two weeks, while a full recovery time could be anywhere from six to eight weeks. If WWE wants Joe to fully recover, it means he could be out of action until early March, which means he would miss the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

Fingers crossed Joe isn't out for too long, as it looked like he was just about to start what would have been an awesome feud with John Cena before and after the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

It was only last year that The Samoan Submission Specialist missed a couple of months due to a knee injury he picked up at a house show in August. He wouldn't return to the WWE until the October 30 episode of Raw.

Hopefully Joe is back in the ring competing soon, and hopefully, he's able to recover in time to compete in the Royal Rumble match on January 28.
