Golden State Warriors superstar Kevin Durant is widely considered to be the best scorer in the NBA as he can put up numbers in his sleep.

Offensively, there aren't many that can match his ability to put the ball through the hoop and he's virtually unguardable every night he steps onto the floor.

He's effortlessly producing big numbers again this year as he's averaging 25.9 points, 5.3 assists and 7.1 rebounds per game.

The reigning Finals MVP has the ability to go down as the greatest scorer in NBA history and potentially surpass Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the leading scorer of all-time.

But the eight-time All-Star still has a long way to go before he can reach that mark.

The former Oklahoma City Thunder star, however, is fast approaching another significant milestone that would put him in elite company.

The small forward is set to make his return to action on Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Clippers after missing the last two games with a calf strain and is just 25 points short of reaching 20,000 career points.

It would make him the second youngest player to achieve this - behind LeBron James - and become one of just five players to have hit that mark before turning 30, along with James, Kobe Bryant, Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan.

"Man, that's some great company, and there's so many names I never thought I'd be in the same conversation with," Durant told ESPN's Chris Haynes.

"But to know -- to have it in numbers, in black and white -- to know that you belong in that group is pretty special to me. I'm telling you, man, it's never been a goal of mine to count how many points I have. That's not why I play the game.

"To be under 30 and do it, that's special to me too. You play in this league for so long, and having an opportunity to do something like this at this age, you just can't take it for granted, because there's not too many players on that list."

Apart from his rookie year, Durant has never posted less than 25 points in a single season and has been a consistent scorer since he came into the league in 2007.

It would be a remarkable achievement and you can surely expect his Warriors teammates to feed him the ball at every opportunity to help him accomplish the feat in front of his home fans at Oracle Arena.
