Real Madrid are set to rival Manchester United in a bid to sign Valencia midfielder David Silva in the summer.

The Spanish giants are reported to be lining up a €30 million bid for the Spanish international, according to Spanish daily AS.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is also thought to be a keen admirer of the 24 year-old but may have to match Madrid’s offer if he has any chance of securing the player’s services.

However, the Reds’ boss could use some £80 million from the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo to try and persuade Silva with a move to Old Trafford over the Bernebeu.

Ferguson is looking to add another world class midfielder to his ranks, as the careers of Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs near their end.

Serveral players could leave the Mestalla in the summer as Valencia look ease their financial problems. Prizes assets David Silva and David Villa may have to be sold in order to raise the cash to solve the club’s financial crisis.

Silva has been highly impressive for both club and country for a number of years making 30 international appearances for Spain and scoring six goals.
