Now that Philippe Coutinho has finally joined Barcelona, Liverpool have a tidy £105 million - due to rise to £142 million - sitting in their bank. It's expected Jurgen Klopp will reinvest that money in a replacement for the Brazilian, but whether that happens in January or the summer remains to be seen.Among those to have been linked with Liverpool are Thomas Lemar and Riyad Mahrez, with the former reportedly keen on a move to Anfield. Some Liverpool legends have even suggested signing Arsenal's wantaway star Alexis Sanchez, but realistically that's never going to happen.Rumours are rife that the Reds are targeting a 'mystery man' in January which, naturally, has sparked speculation amongst Kopites.Who could this 'mystery man' be? Well, Liverpool fans reckon they could be making a move for Borussia Dortmund's Christian Pulisic, who is a long-term target for the club.Pulisic, 19, has been heavily linked with Liverpool in recent days and like Coutinho he plays as an attacking midfielder, so it would make sense if he's the player in question.

LIVERPOOL FANS WANT CHRISTIAN PULISIC

However, according to respected journalist and German football expert Raphael Honigstein, Liverpool's 'mystery man' isn't Pulisic because he isn't an "immediate target".

In response to Liverpool fans suggesting they're going for Liverpool in January, Honigstein wrote: "Don't think so. Mystery man seems to be an immediate target."

RAPHAEL HONIGSTEIN RESPONDS

Looks like Liverpool won't be trying to sign Pulisic this month, but there's still reason for Kopites to be positive.

Speaking on the Totally Football Show podcast earlier this week, Honigstein said he expects Liverpool to "come in heavily" for Pulisic in the summer.

"I don't see anyone who can be a direct replacement for Coutinho, but that's why Barcelona paid so much money. There aren't many players who can do what he does," Honigstein explained.

"There is no such player in the Bundesliga, apart from Thiago [Alcantara], but Bayern won't sell.

"Christian Pulisic is a player Liverpool have tried to sign before. I'd be very surprised if they didn't come in for him heavily next summer.

"But again, he wouldn't be a replacement. He'd be like Coutinho five years ago. He's not ready to play in that central role as he's more of a winger.

"Even if Dortmund were prepared to sell, which they aren't, he wouldn’t be able to do what Coutinho did this season."
