Chris Jericho has been in the headlines as of late due to his No DQ match with Kenny Omega at last Thursday’s Wrestle Kingdom 12 event.

However, Inside The Ropes has released a new interview in which Jericho talks about various topics including who he wanted to wrestle originally at WrestleMania 33.

The event took place on April 2, 2017 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida. It was a historic event to say the least.

In the main event, Roman Reigns defeated The Undertaker in a No Holds Barred match and Brock Lesnar defeated Goldberg to become the Universal Champion. The Hardy Boyz also made their return to the sports entertainment company.

Jericho wrestled Kevin Owens for the United States Title on the card. As seen in the match, Owens was able to beat Jericho and retain his title.

During the interview with Inside The Ropes, Jericho revealed that he originally wanted to wrestle former NXT champion Shinsuke Nakamura at the biggest event of the year for the sports entertainment company. Here is what he had to say (transcript courtesy of SportsKeeda):

“After we went to Japan in June or July I remember coming back and talking to Vince, and I said you’ve got to bring this Nakamura guy up to the main roster.

I wanna work with him. Let’s debut him at WrestleMania. I said I’ll stay until WrestleMania if I can work with Nakamura. Vince said okay. Then about a month later, I said that I actually think me and Kevin Owens could work at WrestleMania.”

Jericho is a six-time world champion, having won the WWF Championship once, the WCW/World Championship twice, and WWE's World Heavyweight Championship three times.

He is also a record nine-time Intercontinental Champion. Jericho is the first Undisputed WWF Champion, and thus the final holder of the World Championship (formerly the WCW World Heavyweight Championship), having won and unified the WWF and World titles by defeating Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock on the same night in 2001.

He is also the ninth Triple Crown Champion, as well as the fourth Grand Slam Champion in WWE history. Jericho has been under contract with the sports entertainment company off and on since 1999.
