Life after Philippe Coutinho has begun for Liverpool and although they are £145 million richer, they are a magician short.

What will the club do with their massive injection of cash?

Fans will be hoping they spend it more carefully than they did following Luis Suarez's departure to Barcelona back in 2014.

The Reds spent £115 million on nine players and only really Adam Lallana and Emre Can have proven to be major assets.

Virgil Van Dijk has already joined the club for £75 million in an attempt to improve Liverpool's heavily-criticised backline, but according to a report from The Telegraph, the club will reinvest some of the money in their current squad.

Assets like Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah are bound to command interest in the coming years, but boss Jurgen Klopp has been promised Liverpool won't become a selling club like his former employers, Dortmund.

Roberto Firmino has been a vital member of the Liverpool squad and he has improved season upon season. His 16 goals this season is only second to Salah and the way he leads the line from the front has become invaluable to the red half of Merseyside's style.

The 26-year-old Brazilian is said to be one of the players Liverpool want to tie down, but they want to offer him a special deal.

The former Hoffenheim man has two years left on his contract, but Liverpool want to give him a contract for the rest of his career.

According to the report, negotiations have not started yet but they are expected to before the season is finished.

Firmino enjoyed a special relationship with his recent departed compatriot Coutinho. The striker posted a complimentary message to the new Barcelona star on Wednesday.

“Liverpool is no longer the same without you my magical brother,” Firmino wrote on social media following his friend’s departure to the Nou Camp.

“I wish you infinite success, that you enjoy life and realise all your dreams brother. God is always protecting you and your whole family. It was an honour to play with a magician like you.”

If he keeps improving his goalscoring record, Liverpool fans will be happy to see him remain at Anfield until he hangs up his boots.
