Kevin Durant entered himself into the NBA history books once more this week after an impressive performance in the Golden State Warriors' loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night. The Warriors lost 125-106 to the Clippers last night at the Oracle Arena, the sixth time which they have lost at home so far this season. However many fans may excuse their performance due to the fact they were playing without Steph Curry and Klay Thompson on the court. In their absence, Durant shined on the court, scoring 40 points alongside four rebounds, four assists, one steal, and one block in 31 minutes of action. Yet, no one on the Warriors was able to handle Clippers' Lou Williams who took off, scoring 50 points with two rebounds, and seven assists in 35 minutes of game time.Despite the loss, it was still a special night for Durant, as with his 25th point of the game with 1:41 remaining in the second quarter, he became the second-youngest player in NBA history, behind LeBron James, to reach 20,000 career points. The Warriors star reached the landmark at 29 years and 104 days old, while LeBron was 28 years and 17 days old when he scored his 20,000 career point.

After sitting out the past three games with a right calf strain, it only took the All-Star forward 16 minutes to score the 25 points needed to achieve the amazing accomplishment. Durant received a standing ovation with the JumboTron acknowledging his feat as well.

To put this accomplishment into perspective, Durant is only the fifth player in NBA history to have scored that many points before turning 30, along with James, Kobe Bryant, Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan. He's also only the 44th player in NBA history to score 20,000 career points.

Durant told ESPN’s Chris Haynes before reaching 20,000 career points: “Man, that’s some great company, and there’s so many names I never thought I’d be in the same conversation with. But to know — to have it in numbers, in black and white — to know that you belong in that group is pretty special to me.

"I’m telling you, man, it’s never been a goal of mine to count how many points I have. That’s not why I play the game. To be under 30 and do it, that’s special to me too. You play in this league for so long, and having an opportunity to do something like this at this age, you just can’t take it for granted, because there’s not too many players on that list.”
