The Los Angeles Clippers secured their first win over the Golden State Warriors since 2014 thanks to a stunning career night from Lou Williams. The shooting guard exploded for 50 points as he guided his team to a 125-106 victory at Oracle Arena - their first in the Bay Area since 2011.Williams is enjoying his best season in the league and has gone off for 40 points or more on multiple occasions already this year but he saved his best display for the home of the defending champions. He has been terrific offensively for Los Angeles throughout the campaign and has been the one bright spark in a season that has been marred by injuries for the franchise.Whether he's come off the bench or started, the veteran has produced buckets on a regular basis and has been virtually unguardable. The absence of All-NBA defender Klay Thompson - who was rested for the encounter - possibly allowed Williams to get as much joy as he did. With head coach Steve Kerr already deciding before the contest that his sharpshooter would sit this one out, he interestingly chose to make a bold prediction.Kerr joked that the Clippers man would notch 50 points, and he was incredibly proved right.Williams reached 50 when he drained a long three-pointer in the closing stages, which drew a wry smile from the Dubs coach on the bench.

He will certainly think twice about making this sort of prediction again for the remainder of the campaign to avoid this kind of scenario that's for sure.

As well as Thompson, the Oakland-based outfit was without Stephen Curry as he suffered a recurrence of his ankle injury in the shootaround prior to the game on Wednesday.

But even with his backcourt duo missing, Kerr believed they still had enough talent on the floor to win the game but he praised the Clippers for taking full advantage.

"We still have two All-Stars. It's an embarrassment of riches," Kerr said, referring to Kevin Durant and Draymond Green, per ESPN. "I'm not going to shy away from that.

"Our spirit wasn't right, our energy wasn't right. We weren't connected and they were. The Clippers came in here probably insulted we were resting Klay, and obviously Steph goes down and so the game changes."

Even with the absentees in the Warriors lineup, L.A. will certainly be happy to have got a huge monkey off their back by finally beating their Pacific Division rivals.

They move to 19-21 in the west and keep their playoff hopes alive, while Golden State still remains top of the pack with a 33-9 record.
