Arsenal forward faces injury setback

Arsenal's hopes of domestic and European glory have been dealt another setback as Russian playmaker Andrey Arshavin confirmed he expected to miss up to three weeks with a calf problem suffered in the 2-2 Champions League quarter-final clash against Barcelona.

Arshavin was substituted inside 30 minutes at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night, and believes he will now spend the best part of a month on the sidelines - missing not only the return leg in Barcelona, but also the north London derby at Tottenham on April 14.

The Russian said on his personal website, "Perhaps I won't be able to play for another two or three weeks. It is not a relapse of my old injury, this is a new one."

The Gunners are anxiously awaiting the outcome of scans on captain Cesc Fabregas, who fears his season - and possibly World Cup hopes - may be over after suffering what could be a broken leg as his side battled back from 2-0 down to snatch a draw to take to the Nou Camp next week.

Defender William Gallas, meanwhile, looks set to also be unavailable for the remainder of the campaign after he broke down on his return following eight games out with a calf injury.

Arshavin, however, maintains his team-mates have what it takes to pull of a shock victory in Spain.

"The rest of the players will play to win," he said. "They showed great character. Barcelona had a good start, but we found our way back. There is one more match ahead, and there is still hope."

Manager Arsene Wenger does not expect to have Gallas, 32, available again.

"The rest of the season is compromised for him," the Gunners boss told French TV station Canal Plus. "He pulled his calf again, so it was a gamble that probably didn't pay off.

"It is the end of the season - I am talking about Arsenal, but I think he will be ready for the World Cup."
