Thomas Lemar has been a name heavily linked with Premier League clubs since the summer transfer window.

The exciting French winger forged his reputation in Leonardo Jardim's exciting Monaco side which romped to the Ligue 1 title and made it to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Alongside Bernardo Silva, Radamel Falcao and Kylian Mbappe, Lemar was part of the most potent front in Europe, earning a spot in the French national setup.

Arsenal and Liverpool came calling in the latter stages of the summer window, but neither English giant managed to secure a deal, with the Gunners leaving a potential €90m transfer 'too late'.

Now, with the reopening of the window in January, the rumours are back and stronger than ever after Philippe Coutinho left for Barcelona and Alexis Sanchez looks destined to swap Arsenal for Manchester.

Liverpool have identified the 22-year-old as an ideal replacement for Coutinho but, the club may have changed their stance with regards to a move in January.

The Liverpool Echo report that Klopp and his hierarchy now view Lemar - who would cost around €80-90m - as overpriced.

The paper write: "Thomas Lemar remains on Klopp's radar but Liverpool have yet to re-ignite the negotiations which took place last summer.

"Initially reluctant to sell mid-season, Monaco have been making noises this week that they might be prepared to do business.

"However, there's a feeling inside Liverpool that he's over-priced at around £80million to £90million in the current market and that cash would be better spent elsewhere.

"It's a situation which could change over the coming weeks but Klopp wants a bona fide game changer and if he can't find what he wants at what he perceives to be a fair price this month then he's prepared to wait until the summer."

Chris Bascombe also makes the interesting point that Klopp views the signings of Virgin van Dijk and Naby Keita as genuine steps towards becoming title contenders, so will not jump the gun when bringing in new forwards.

Still, if they fail to strengthen in January, their quest for top four may take a knock with Tottenham lurking.
