A twist in the expectations for this show has surfaced online.

Mixed Match Challenge will stream live on Facebook on Tuesday nights beginning Jan.16. The 12-episode series will air on Facebook.

The original idea was going to be a show focused on the Women of WWE. This would have included female stars from Raw, Smackdown Live, and NXT.

Fans will be able to watch WWE Superstars from both the Raw and SmackDown Live rosters competing in a single-elimination mixed tag-team tournament to win $100,000 to support the charity of their choice.

The show will air live on Facebook after SmackDown goes off the air. Thus, this would mean that 205 Live will be delayed by a half hour.

It was noted during a recent edition of The Wrestling Observer Live (via Sportskeeda) that the series is not a project being overseen by WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.

According to the report, Ryan Ward is in charge of the upcoming tournament. If you recall, Ward was previously a booker for NXT and is now on part of the SmackDown Live creative team.

The series will feature 12 teams with female and male WWE Superstars going against each other in a tournament format.

The sports entertainment company recently released the brackets for the upcoming tournament, which you can see here:

Week 1: Finn Balor & Sasha Banks will go head-to-head against Shinsuke Nakamura & Natalya.

Week 2: The Miz & Asuka vs. Big E & Carmella

Week 3: Braun Strowman & Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss vs. Sami Zayn & Becky Lynch

Week 4: Goldust & Alicia Fox vs. SmackDown Tag Team Champion Jimmy Uso and Naomi

Week 5: Elias & Bayley vs. Rusev & Lana

Week 6: Apollo Crews & Nia Jax vs. Bobby Roode & SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair

The semi-finals will include a special “second chance fan vote” that will give fans the ability to give an eliminated team a second chance in the tournament.

What are your thoughts on this upcoming tournament the sports entertainment company will be presenting on social media to their fans in a way that has never been seen before in the world of the professional wrestling landscape?
