Undefeated heavyweight champion Floyd Mayweather has announced a new virtual reality game and was throwing punches against himself in the ring in Las Vegas.

The "Mayweather Boxing + Fitness Virtual Reality program" was unveiled at CES last week.

Gamers, who wear a virtual headset connected with wires to wrap around their forearms, score points for correct jabs and upper cuts whilst keeping on their feet and producing physical punches in the style of the 41-year-old champ.

In the video, Mayweather can be seen hysterically laughing and screaming at his virtual opponent whilst wearing the headset as fans looked on in Las Vegas.

Mayweather has pocketed over a billion pounds from fight purses and commercial ventures, yet this programme is designed to help give something back to help others find it easier to get into boxing and keep fit.

It's aimed to train individuals to get fit and accumulate some fighting ability. The programme entails a hard intensity cardio and skills workouts over a 12-week period with the workouts becoming more challenging as the course goes on.

"Boxing gave me a platform to become a world-class athlete, and I'm using those skills to build a global fitness platform that will help people to train better and smarter," said Mayweather.

"I've seen how the fitness industry has evolved; and now we're taking it to the next level, not only by incorporating the workouts that I used throughout my career, but also by investing in cutting-edge technology and making that a core part of our offering."

The programme entails the philosophy that everyone should have the same degree of access to elite facilities, ones which Mayweather has used to accomplish his career goals.

"The fitness industry is evolving quickly, and consumers are increasingly demanding more effective ways to train, many of which incorporate new forms of technology," said Maywether Fitness + Boxing CEO James Williams.

"With our flagship gym location set to open this month, we're creating a one-of-a-kind fitness experience that combines the most effective programming in the industry with fully immersive tech experiences – all tailored to the everyday fitness consumer."

Mayweather Boxing + Fitness also includes a community giveback program called "Gloves Over Guns," which will give free mentoring and fitness training to inner-city youth.

The team are also looking to develop an app for the latest product.
