Keith Gilroy returns to contention for Burton ahead of the visit of Darlington.

The winger has been absent due to suspension but, with Jacques Maghoma still sidelined by a knee injury, will challenge Jimmy Phillips for a starting role on the left. However, Albion boss Paul Peschisolido also has the option of recalling Aaron Webster.

Midfielder John McGrath has recovered from a knock picked up in last weekend's 1-1 draw at Barnet, as has on-loan defender Tom Parkes.

Veteran midfielder Michael Simpson confirmed his recovery from a broken foot by making his comeback in the reserves on Monday night, but Peschisolido is not expected to break up the partnership of McGrath and Russell Penn.

Meanwhile, full-back Richard Jackson is to have an injection next week as part of the next step to try to find a cure for his persistent back problem.

Darlington midfielder Gareth Waite could return to the squad in new manager Simon Davey's first game in charge.

Waite missed last weekend's win at Shrewsbury due to a knee problem and was replaced in the squad by Nathan Mulligan.

Midfielder Chris Lumsdon is lacking only match fitness following a seven-month injury lay-off, but is not expected to return, while defenders Stuart Giddings (groin), Mark Bower (ankle) and Richie Byrne and veteran striker Noel Whelan (both hamstring) remain sidelined.

Darlington won only their second away league match of the season - fifth in total - under caretaker managers Craig Liddle and Neil Maddison last week and former Barnsley boss Davey is unlikely to make any changes.

Tadgh Purcell, who has scored eight goals in 15 matches since arriving from Ireland, and strike-partner Mor Diop will lead the forward line.
