A lot of football fans were suggesting that if Manchester City were going to lose a Premier League match this season, it would come at Anfield.City have a wretched record on Merseyside and, despite Philippe Coutinho’s recent departure, Liverpool were heading into the clash in fine form.Jurgen Klopp’s side were unbeaten in their previous 17 matches in all competitions and took an early lead through a fine Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain strike. But it was business as usual just before half-time as Leroy Sane equalised after Loris Karius allowed his shot to sneak in at his near post. But what happened in the second-half was just crazy. And it was Roberto Firmino’s goal in the 59th-minute that changed everything.John Stones appeared to be set to deal with Oxlade-Chamberlain’s through ball but Firmino shrugged him off with ease before producing a sensational dink over the onrushing Ederson.

Brilliant.

Ironically enough, Gary Neville was the man to pass comment on it as co-commentator.

Why was it ironic?

Well, because Firmino’s strike was a carbon-copy of Robbie Fowler’s goal against Manchester United back in 1995. And the player Fowler shrugged off that day? Gary Neville.

FOOTBALL FANS REACT

It was something that wasn’t lost on plenty of football fans as they reacted to Firmino’s dink. Check out the reaction:

But things were set to get much much worse for City very quickly.

Two minutes later, Sadio Mane wrapped up the match, making it 3-1 with a sensational left-footed drive.

Then, just nine minutes after Firmino made it 2-1, Salah scored Liverpool’s 4-1 as Emerson gifted him the ball 35 yards out and the Egyptian finished brilliantly.

Bernardo Silva pulled a goal back late on to make it 4-2 while Ilkay Gundogan made it 4-3 to set up a nervy finish.
