Kenny Omega is probably the biggest name outside of WWE in professional wrestling, and even more so after his recent feud with Chris Jericho in New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW).

Jericho made his NJPW debut late last year when he challenged the IWGP United States Heavyweight Champ to a match at Wrestle Kingdom 12. After a great build-up the match finally took place earlier this month, and after a great back-and-forth, Omega emerged victorious.

"The Cleaner" recently did an interview with Bleacher Report and was asked about a variety of professional wrestling topics.

One such topic discussed was cross-promotional matches between WWE and other promotions such as NJPW or Ring Of Honor (ROH).

Omega recently resigned with NJPW and said he wanted to do something with The New Day not too long ago, as they were the hottest trio in professional wrestling.

He eventually felt discouraged of trying to make a cross-promotional match happen as the New Day negotiations fell 'flat on its face' (quotes via SportsKeeda):

“We really wanted to do something with a New Day, who was — at that time — they were sort of the hottest trio in all professional wrestling.

"And not only that, we were friends with the guys. So, we had really thought it’d be cool to go up and above everyone’s heads and make the appeal that we wanted to make this match happen.

“I’d sort of been discouraged of ever trying to create a cross-promotional match. The New Day angle fell flat on its face.

"I just sort of thought that from here on in, trying to even challenge WWE guys, if there was no payoff, there’s no reason for it. It would’ve been dumb.”

The New Day are currently one of the top tag teams over on SmackDown Live but aren't in the Tag Team Title picture at the moment. Omega comes hot off his feud with Jericho and continues to tease a rivalry with Cody Rhodes.

If we ever want to see Omega join WWE in the future it's going to have to wait another year after he resigned with NJPW.

What are your thoughts on Omega's comments regarding a cross-promotional match between himself and The New Day? Do you think that this match would've been one of the top feuds in wrestling if it had taken place? And would WWE ever be interested in doing any sort of cross-promotional work down the road? Have YOUR say in the comments section below, and the fourth episode of GiveMeSport’s WWE podcast is here!
