Bobby Roode and Charlotte Flair are one of the best pairings WWE came up with for the Mixed Match Challenge - but what inspired the company to pair the two together?

WWE introduced the idea of the Mixed Match Challenge late last year, announcing teams of men and women will compete against each other from both brands, in a tournament-style bracket on Facebook Watch. The tournament is set to kick off on Tuesday night after SmackDown Live.

That episode of the tournament will kick off with a matchup between Finn Bálor & Sasha Banks against Shinsuke Nakamura & Natalya. You can check out the rest of the first-round matches set to go down over the next few weeks here:

Week 2: The Miz & Asuka vs. Big E & Carmella

Week 3: Braun Strowman & Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss vs. Sami Zayn & Becky Lynch

Week 4: Goldust & Alicia Fox vs. SmackDown Tag Team Champion Jimmy Uso and Naomi

Week 5: Elias & Bayley vs. Rusev & Lana

Week 6: Apollo Crews & Nia Jax vs. Bobby Roode & SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair

The semi-finals of the tournament features the fans' ability to vote back a team that has already been eliminated for a second chance. One of the more interesting and favorite teams matched-up is Charlotte Flair and Bobby Roode.

Both have a lot of similarities to one another when it comes to the extravagance of their entrances. According to a report from Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, this is a key reason WWE decided to pair the two.

Due to the fact that both like to wear robes on their way to the ring, Meltzer reports that the reason WWE wanted to pair them together was to be able to call their team "The Robe Warriors."

The name sounds an awful like all-time great tag team The Road Warriors, but that's probably not why WWE wanted to use the name.

What are your thoughts on Roode and Flair being paired up by WWE so that they could call the duo "The Robe Warriors?" Do you think that this was a good idea by WWE creative? Or was this a poor reason two match-up two of the best talents on the WWE's roster? Have YOUR say in the comments section below, and the fourth episode of GiveMeSport’s WWE podcast is here!
