English boxing manager and promoter, Frank Warren, has made the bold claim that the British public has no interest in the boxing career of Amir Khan.

Warren believes that Khan's extended absence from the game has made the public lose interest in him.

While away from the sport, Khan tried to boost his profile by recently appearing on the popular television series "I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!", in which millions of viewers watched the Olympic silver medalist for nearly a month during his time on the show.

Khan made headlines last week when he signed a three-fight deal with Warren's rival promoter Eddie Hearn, and while the opponent is to be determined, it is confirmed that Khan will have his first fight in over two years.

Warren believes that it will take much more than appearing on a television series to convince the British public that he is a serious contender in the ring again.

"He came to us and asked if we were interested and they said they had the fight with [Manny] Pacquiao," Warren told ESPN. "I offered him to fight Bradley Skeete, and he didn't come back.

"He got badly knocked out in his last fight and people have lost interest. I know he's been in the jungle but that's not fighting.

"Realistically we will see what he has got left in his next fight. They said they are looking for a tough opponent, so they should fight Bradley Skeete. But I know they won't."

Skeete is the current British welterweight champion and has lost just once from his 28 professional fights.

Khan's return to the ring, which marks his first on British soil in five years, falls on the same night as Carl Frampton's featherweight encounter with Nonito Donaire in Belfast.

"It's ridiculous they are having Amir's fight on the same night as Carl Frampton in Belfast," Warren continued.

"But our fight is a real fight between two quality operators but Khan will be fighting a stiff."

Despite the outcome of the fight, the encounter will be good for Khan's return to the sport as much as it is good for the public to become interested in his career once again.
