With the New Orleans Pelicans trailing by 19 points in the third quarter against the New York Knicks on Sunday, they needed something special to overcome the massive hole they were in and Anthony Davis provided it.The Pelicans managed to stun the Knicks crowd as they left Madison Square Garden with a thrilling 123-118 win in overtime with Davis producing a monster stat line. The power forward exploded for a season-high 48 points and 17 rebounds as he put New Orleans on his back and led them to victory with a stunning performance.Speaking after the game, the big man gave a modest response to his huge night."I just tried to get us going on both ends of the floor. I was able just to continue to make shots," Davis said, per ESPN's Ian Begley. What he did wasn't an easy feat at all and it was put into perspective as he joined an elite group of players with the numbers he put up.

This was Davis' fifth career game with at least 45 points and 15 rebounds. The last player to have that many was Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal, who had seven in his 19 years in the league, according to ESPN Stats and Information.

That wasn’t the only milestone for the Pelicans' four-time All-Star. He also added four steals and three blocks in the contest which made it the second time in his career he produced a game with 45/17/3/3.

Per ESPN Stats and Info, NBA legend Hakeem Olajuwon is the only other player to post that line more than once in the last 35 years.

"AD was just huge for us. When he gets into those zones like that, he's really good," Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said.

Davis clearly enjoys the bright lights of New York as he added to his terrific record at MSG. It was his third straight game with at least 35 points in the world’s most famous arena and he's the first opposing player to have back-to-back 40-point games there since Michael Jordan.

"Someone said that he plays well here and I hope that continues," Gentry said. "I thought he was phenomenal, he just did a great job."

Davis' huge night was one of the best individual displays of the year and it led to positive reactions on Twitter.

The Kentucky product is enjoying another remarkable campaign as he ranks in the top 10 in points, rebounds, blocks, and field goal percentage and is one of the leading vote-getters for the All-Star game next month.

The win sees the Pelicans move to sixth in the west with a 22-20 record and maintain a firm grip on a playoff spot.

Consistency has been a big problem for New Orleans this season but with Davis in this mood, they are a match for any team and can be a real threat in the second half of the year.
