Jadon Sancho left Manchester City last summer in a £8 million move to Borussia Dortmund.

Taking a risk like that is a very rare one for a player of Sancho's age, 17, let alone an English talent.

Very few English players making permanent moves abroad even at senior level, but Sancho saw an opportunity to fill the boots of the outgoing Ousmane Dembélé after the latter's big-money transfer to Barcelona.

He was immediately given Dembele's vacated number seven shirt - a sure sign that Dortmund had immediate plans for the Londoner.

And so they did. While it's taken a little over four months, Sancho has been handed his first start for the club.

That's a lot of faith to put in a 17-year-old who's in a new team in a new country, and especially when that team has built a reputation for attacking players.

Robert Lewandowski, Mario Gotze, Marco Reus, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have all joined Dembele in being a player that Dortmund took a chance on helped bring into the elite.

The last year has already seen American teenager Christian Pulisic explode into the limelight, becoming the star for his national team and being tipped for an incredible future - Sancho will be hoping to achieve the same as soon as possible.

And if these highlights from his first start for the club are anything to go by, he won't have to wait long.

Sancho's pace and skill are evident from start to finish - but it's his bravery and calmness that stand out the most.

You wouldn't second guess someone telling you that this was an experienced player rather than a teenager making his first ever senior start; you can see exactly why Dortmund felt confident including the player in their first team this season.

Sancho will likely pick up more game time as the season goes on and it will certainly be interesting to see how a talented, young English player develops away from the national limelight that puts so much on promising kids.

The future is clearly very bright for Sancho and Dortmund - he could be on his way to joining an elite list of players.
