Gulls shoot down Shrews: Match Review

Published Add your comment

Torquay eased their relegation fears with a battling 2-1 win over a Shrewsbury side who have now lost five games in a row.

Targetman Scott Rendell hit the 61st-minute winner after central defender Mark Ellis had levelled in the 47th minute - both goals came following corners by recalled left-back Kevin Nicholson.

Defender Dean Holden hammered in Shrewsbury's 27th-minute opener from the far post after United failed to clear Jake Simpson's corner from the left.

Former Shrewsbury keeper Bevan then made a brilliant 31st-minute diving save to deny visiting striker Dave Hibbert as he let fly from 12 yards.

At the other end, Town keeper David Button was forced to palm over Nicky Wroe's thumping free kick from 20 yards.
