Liverpool were in heaven when the club finally signed Virgil Van Dijk for £75 million at the beginning of the January transfer window.

Then, they were sharply brought back down to earth with the sale of star man Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona for £145 million.

But, they were right back up to cloud nine after beating the previously undefeated Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday in a 4-3 thriller.

The red half of Merseyside will be hoping for more good news regarding Emre Can's future in the coming weeks.

The German midfielder is out-of-contract in the summer and he is rumoured to be a major target for Italian giants Juventus. The 24-year-old has denied he has signed anything with the Serie A side though and maintains he may remain at Liverpool.

“My agent is looking after everything but I am here until the summer,” Can said. "I haven’t signed anything (with Juventus) or anyone. I am talking with everyone.

“Of course I am talking with Liverpool. I still have a contract here. It is an amazing club. What can I say? My agent does the rest."

Defender Dejan Lovren's posted a photo to his Instagram account showing the Croatian in the changing rooms at Melwood, alongside teammates Gini Wijnaldum and Emre Can on Sunday, which seemed innocent enough.

However, when Daniel Sturridge and Alberto replied with "Keeeerching!" and moneybag emojis, many fans started believing that Can has sealed a new deal with the club. Take a look at the pic courtesy of the Liverpool Echo.

However, it seems as though the players were referring to the fact that the players will be paying up, as Liverpool's players operate a system whereby offences in and around the training ground are punished with fines. Dressing-room selfies are one such offence.

Lovren's winking face caption didn't help matters, but the Liverpool Echo have done an expert job of decrypting the post and it seems it's nothing too cryptic this time around.

Still, plenty of questions surround Can's future and with the way Klopp's men are progressing, the former Bayer Leverkusen man must be wondering if leaving the club is really in his best interest.
