It looks like this month's Royal Rumble pay-per-view (PPV) is down a title match, as WWE.com has announced that the United States Tournament finals will no longer take place at the event.

The Royal Rumble is set to go down from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on January 28th. The PPV is one of WWE's big four and kicks off the road to WrestleMania each year.

The winner of the main event, a 30-Man Over-The-Top-Rope Royal Rumble match will determine who will challenge for a World Title and main event WrestleMania.

Also on the card will be several title matches as nearly every WWE title will be defended on the night. All except the United States Title.

Several weeks ago at the Night Of Champions PPV Dolph Ziggler defeated Baron Corbin and Bobby Roode in a Triple Threat match for the United States Title, but vacated the strap on the next episode of SmackDown Live after he walked out on the company in a storyline.

SmackDown Live General Manager Daniel Bryan then announced a tournament that would take place over the next few weeks to crown a new champion.

The finalists were to meet at the Royal Rumble to crown the new United States Champ.

On tonight's (Tues. January 16, 2017) episode of SmackDown Live two semi final matches will take place to determine the tournament's finalists; as Xavier Woods will take on Jinder Mahal, and Mojo Rawley will take on Bobby Roode.

Instead of the finals being on the Royal Rumble PPV card they will be on the go-home SmackDown Live to the PPV event instead. WWE.com made the official announcement:

What are your thoughts on the United States Title Tournament finals taking place on the SmackDown Live before the Royal Rumble? Do you think that the match should've instead been held off until the PPV event?
