Jon Jones has a history of controversy during his career in UFC to date, but he has denied the recent failed drug test that he took Turinabol, an anabolic steroid, prior to his UFC 214 fight against Daniel Cormier in Anaheim, California.

Back in August 2017, UFC announced that Jones had failed a drug test on July 28, a day before his third-round TKO win over Cormier. Since then, both Jones and his management team have repeatedly denied the fact that Jones deliberately took any banned substance prior to the fight.

As a result of the findings, the California State Athletic Commission overturned the fight to a no-contest and Cormier was awarded the light heavyweight title once again, which he will defend this weekend against Volkan Oezdemir on January 20 at UFC 220.

While Jones was initially provisionally suspended by USADA in August, he has yet to be handed an official punishment by the CSAC or USADA. His CSAC hearing is scheduled to take place in February.

The former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion has gone out of his way to prove his innocence, but not everyone is going to be him. According to MMA Fighting, Bones took a polygraph test in hopes of proving he is telling the truth, a test which he passed.

The test was carried out by the PGP Polygraph & Interviewing Service in Albuquerque, New Mexico on December 7,  but neither the UFC nor the United States Anti-Doping Agency asked Jones to take the test.

Polygraph tests haven’t been considered reliable for decades, and the courts of law in the United States don’t accept them anymore, and it’s unlikely that USADA will either. UFC legend Chuck Liddell is skeptical of Jones’ recent polygraph test results as well.

He said to MMA Mania: "I didn’t see it, but ... is a polygraph really gonna prove anything? Is this the “someone slipped something into my drink” defense? And who paid for the polygraph? The “someone put it in my drink more than once”, defense? Like... first go round, its a little different.

"What was the first one, tainted Cialis? Listen, how tainted was the Cialis, for that to register in a high enough amount that it would pop you on the test? I don’t know about tests. Maybe you just need a little bit to pop you, but to be at a level that would show up on the test, it seems like you would have to have taken a LOT of tainted Cialis. Or, just a little bit in the Cialis, if it wasn’t that, instead of Cialis, in whatever it was. I don’t know."

Jones' history of controversies has resulted in a lot of people not trusting him, so even with the good polygraph results, it's going to be tough for him to win people over.
