The Cleveland Cavaliers are in the midst of a major slump and there are real concerns about their chances of competing for a championship this season. The Cavs are on a four-game losing streak and have dropped nine of their last 12 games. They rank 29th in defence and their lack of effort on that end of the floor has been embarrassing at times.Winning a title looks increasingly difficult for the Cavaliers and at this stage, they're in danger of not coming out of the east at all. They sit third in the conference behind the Toronto Raptors and Boston Celtics with a 26-17 record. Both teams enjoyed huge wins over Cleveland in recent weeks and demonstrated that they're primed to dethrone the men from Ohio. But the franchise knows it can't continue in this vein and are prepared to do something about it in an effort to save their campaign.ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski already reported that the Cavs will be active around the trade deadline and will be looking to make moves.Exactly how many deals they will look to pull off remains to be seen but according to Marc Stein of the New York Times, they will "definitely" make at least one move before February 8.

The Wine and Gold are in possession of one very valuable asset; the Brooklyn Nets' 2018 first-round pick which they acquired in the trade that sent Kyrie Irving to Boston.

Multiple teams have enquired about the possibility of doing a deal that involves that pick, including the Los Angeles Clippers.

The two teams have spoken about a potential trade to send DeAndre Jordan to Cleveland but the Clippers are unwilling to do business without the Nets pick being thrown in.

With LeBron James set to become a free agent in the summer and refusing to commit his future to the team, however, the Cavaliers are reluctant to part with it as they need it for insurance.

But the reality is that if they want to give themselves any chance at keeping LeBron, they must make a big splash before the trade deadline closes and it'll be a testing couple of weeks ahead for general manager Koby Altman and the rest of the front office.

Since James returned home in 2014, the team's management personnel hasn't been shy in bolstering the roster with mid-season pickups as they brought in the likes of J.R. Smith, Iman Shumpert, Channing Frye and Kyle Korver in the last few years.

This could be their most important period as it'll potentially be make or break in their hopes of convincing their superstar to stay in his hometown beyond this year.
