We were out-battled - Stimson

Manager Mark Stimson blasted his players after Gillingham suffered a major blow to their survival hopes with a 1-0 defeat at Oldham.

Lewis Guy`s second half goal earned the Latics all three points in a scrappy game but Stimson was unhappy with his team`s attitude.

``We knew Oldham would make it a tough battle and some of our players were not prepared to put their foot in enough," he said.

``Three or four of the starting 11 didn`t show enough desire and that isn`t enough. It is very disappointing.

``Certain people get above themselves and think they don`t have to show desire for every minute of every game.

``We worked desperately hard to get into this league and I am desperate to stay in it but sometimes you tell the players what to do and they don`t listen.''

Stimson also launched a stinging attack on striker Chris Dickson, who was hauled off before the hour mark.

He went on: ``Chris has everything in his locker but he has to work harder - he is not in the Premier League and needs to work out what he can and can`t do.

``He should be upset about what happened but I don`t know if he will be. He is at the crossroads because if he doesn`t show the right attitude he will end up having a mediocre career.''
