You can’t blame Arsenal fans for feeling a little bit excited at the potential arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

According to reports, the striker has agreed to move from Borussia Dortmund to the Emirates after several disciplinary problems at the German side.

Despite his ill-discipline of late, there’s no denying the Gabon international is a world-class forward.

His record of 141 goals in 212 appearances since signing for Dortmund in 2013 says it all.

Of course, Arsenal fans know Aubameyang’s ability only too well.

They’ve faced him in the Champions League on a few occasions - most notably during the 2014/15 season when Dortmund and Arsenal were drawn in the same group.

Both clubs progressed to the knockout stages - each picking up 13 points from their six matches -but Arsenal’s campaign didn’t get off to a good start.

And they had Aubameyang to blame for that.

His Dortmund side destroyed Arsenal 2-0 at the Westfalenstadion in the first matchday, with Aubameyang producing a Man of the Match performance - and scoring the second goal on the night.

And there is a YouTube video showing his impressive individual highlights from that night in September 2014.

Wenger probably still remembers this performance.

Reports have suggested that Arsenal are willing to pay in excess of £50 million for Aubameyang with his representatives flying into London to discuss a deal.

BALAGUE ON ARSENAL'S PURSUIT OF AUBAMEYANG

However, Guillem Balague believes that there is still plenty of work to do for Arsenal to land him.

“It’s definitely not a done deal because Dortmund are yet to get a firm offer on the table,” Balague told ESPN FC.

“I understand there is interest, the player is very clearly interested. Dortmund are very close to the point where they feel it’s going to be very hard for Aubameyang to be reintegrated into the squad after misbehaving a little bit.

“Having said all that, there’s been a talk between him and (Dortmund boss) Peter Stoger and they seem to have agreed he’s not going to do anything silly for the next few days.

“Also I think in recognition that the Arsenal offer hasn’t come in and might never materialise because who knows? If Arsenal get Mkhitaryan, if Arsenal can get Malcom, maybe they don’t need Aubameyang.

“So I think at the moment it’s a waiting game, Borussia Dortmund are seeing what Arsenal will do. I think they’re in two minds, because on one hand it’s a great opportunity to cash in on a player that they’re a little bit tired of but on the other hand mid-January is the worst time to be looking for another centre-forward.

“So even with €60million what are Dortmund going to do with it? So I think at the moment this is more unlikely to go through than likely simply because where Dortmund are in this.”
