Anthony Davis has been on a tear in recent games and has firmly established himself as the best power forward in the NBA this season.

He joined Wilt Chamberlain as the only other player to post back-to-back 40-point games on the road against the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics this week.

AD poured in 48 points at Madison Square Garden and 45 at TD Garden as he led the New Orleans Pelicans to two overtime wins.

His performance in Boston had added significance as it's been widely reported that he is a trade target for the Celtics and both Davis and the Pelicans are aware of this.

But with rumours constantly doing the rounds about the superstar potentially heading to Beantown, head coach Alvin Gentry decided to finally address it in public and discuss the chances of his best player making that move.

"I know there’s been rumours about Boston trying to trade for him or whatever, and my response to that is, yeah, we’ll trade him. But they’re going to have to give us the New England Patriots and the two planes that they just bought," he said, via Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald.

"...And I don’t think they’re going to do that. So we’re not even thinking about those kind of things."

After signing a five-year, $145 million contract in 2015, the four-time All-Star will remain with the franchise until at least the 2019-20 season, with a player option for 2020-21.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported in December that the Celtics "remained vigilant" in their pursuit of the big man but in an appearance on The Dan LeBatard Show on Wednesday, he poured cold water on the chances of a deal happening.

"New Orleans has no intention of trading Anthony Davis," Wojnarowski said. "Listen, every team in the league would love to have Anthony Davis.

"Boston is uniquely positioned in that they have draft picks, young players and all the things that, if a team was going to trade Anthony Davis, all the things that you’d want. But they’re not trading Anthony Davis.”

Woj also stated that the 24-year-old told him he "wants to make it work" in New Orleans and the ESPN insider believes the Pelicans are not prepared to lose such a prized asset and will do whatever it takes to hang onto him.

“It would be a radical change of direction by the organisation to decide to put him out on the market," Wojnarowski said.

"Players like Anthony Davis do not come along and you just don’t trade them. It’s one thing if it’s at the end of his contract and you feel like you’re going to lose him in free agency, but they’re not anywhere near that yet."

This will come as a blow to Boston but any hopes they had of landing the All-NBA forward were always very slim. The Pels will now hope this puts any speculation to rest as they continue to build with one of the game's best players.
