When Carmelo Anthony waived his no-trade clause and agreed to move to the Oklahoma City Thunder before the start of the season, he knew he'd be joining a winning team but had to make sacrifices.

Teaming up with fellow All-Stars Russell Westbrook and Paul George meant that Melo had to accept a different role that he hadn't been used to throughout his career.

The veteran has always been the go-to guy offensively on his previous teams but with Westbrook winning the MVP award last year for his heroic exploits, Anthony was happy to play second or third fiddle.

For much of the campaign, the transition for the small forward and his teammates has been difficult but over the last month, they have started to slowly put things together.

On Wednesday night, Carmelo enjoyed arguably his best game of the season against the Los Angeles Lakers and he declared that accepting his new role has made the game more enjoyable for him again.

"Once you accept something, regardless of what it is, I think you become comfortable with it," he said, per ESPN's Royce Young.

"You start putting your all into it, you start working on that role and on that acceptance, and it becomes fun. I think right now, after accepting that role, I think early in December, the game is starting to become fun again for me, fun for us as a team.

"Any time you get to making shots and winning basketball games, it makes it that much more fun."

The 10-time All-Star dominated the Lakers as he led all scorers with 27 points on 10-of-15 shooting and 4-of-6 from three-point range to guide OKC to an easy 114-90 win at home.

As Anthony got hot in the third quarter, both Westbrook and George deferred to him and continued to feed him as he clearly had it going.

"I think any time you're making shots you feel good about yourself and what you're doing, what the team is doing," Anthony said.

"Tonight was just one of those nights where the shot was falling and the game was fun. And we took advantage of that."

The Thunder are 5-5 in their last 10 games which once again shows their inconsistent form, but when they click into gear like they did against the Lakers, they're a tough proposition for any team.

It was always going to be an adjustment for the star trio but they are slowly figuring out a system and style to get the best out of each other on the court.

With their firepower, Oklahoma City should still be considered a threat in the west but they'll hope to find a consistent level in the second half of the year to prove it.
