By their standards, the Washington Wizards have been largely disappointing this season as they've suffered many bad losses - usually to teams with losing records.

They were dealt another embarrassing defeat on Wednesday as they were blown off the floor by the Charlotte Hornets.

The 133-109 thumping in North Carolina was the most points they'd given up in a game this year and it led to a furious reaction from head coach Scott Brooks.

Brooks called his team out publicly for the humiliation they endured in Charlotte and was very blunt in his assessment of their performance.

He made it clear that he's lost patience with some of his players and he's ready to do something about it.

"We have to change some things. You just have to find guys that are going to compete," Brooks said, per ESPN. "It's not about nothing else.

"It's not about shots. It's not about how many minutes. It's not about how many shots you get. It's about competing. We all get paid to compete, regardless."

The Wizards coach has said things like this in the past but it seemed different on this occasion and Bradley Beal revealed how he laid into the players after the game.

"He's pissed. He's upset. He's mad," Beal said, per Yahoo Sports. "We're not giving him what he wants from a production standpoint. He's going to make a change for sure. That's pretty much all I can say.

"He was beyond furious after the game. Guys should be ready, a lot of guys should expect to play and not play. That was pretty much his message."

In reality, there aren't many changes that Brooks can make as he's dealing with a limited roster. Beal and John Wall are safe in the starting lineup but they must also be held accountable for some of their questionable work on the defensive end.

Fresh off signing a max contract extension in the summer, Otto Porter Jr. has dealt with health issues but is a valuable member of the team and can help in many areas when he's healthy.

One move the former Oklahoma City Thunder head coach can make is to insert Kelly Oubre Jr. into the starting lineup as he's been one bright spark for the franchise this campaign.

With Oubre on the floor alongside Beal and Wall, Washington usually has a lot of success and this switch could be the obvious one to make at this stage to shake things up.

The Wizards have ambitions to make the Eastern Conference Finals this season but they'll struggle to challenge the likes of the Boston Celtics, Toronto Raptors, and Cleveland Cavaliers on this form.

The humiliation in Charlotte should act as a wake-up call for them and coach Brooks will hope to see a reaction.
