Liverpool have had a busier January than most clubs ever experience in the winter transfer window. After sending their fans delirious with the capture of Virgil Van Dijk for £75 million and seemingly solving all of their defensive issues in the process, the red half of Liverpool was promptly brought back down to earth.Philippe Coutinho, their crown jewel, was sold to Barcelona for a massive £145 million and finally put to bed one of the longest-running transfer sagas in recent memory.Life after the Brazilian playmaker has been kind to Jurgen Klopp's men thus far; their 4-3 victory over champions-elect Manchester city was the first defeat Pep Guardiola's troops have suffered this season. However, there is another important piece of business on the table at Anfield that needs to be sorted out sooner rather than later.German midfielder Emre Can is in the final six months of his contract and is free to talk to other clubs outside the Premier League right now.Allowing the 23-year-old to get this close to his expiry date is criminal in the first place and things aren't being made any easier with the very public interest from Serie A giants, Juventus.Juventus CEO Beppe Marotta has finally endorsed the rumours linking the Turin club to Can and says they will go all-out to sign him."Emre Can is a player whose contract is running down," Marotta said. "So it allows us to approach him for negotiations and that is the course we have taken."I can't say if he could sign a new contract with Liverpool, but I can say we will try all we can to get the player. Obviously, we have to respect what the player wants."Understandably, Liverpool fans are desperate to keep such an important part of their midfield.

Earlier in the week, Can had given hope he would agree a new deal at Anfield, with discussions still ongoing.

“My agent is looking after everything but I am here until the summer,” Can said.

“I haven’t signed anything (with Juventus) or anyone. I am talking with everyone.

Of course I am talking with Liverpool. I still have a contract here. It is an amazing club. What can I say? My agent does the rest.

“I just concentrate on the season, on my performance and the football. I will give everything for this team.”

While Can is listening to offers from both clubs, it seems to be a straight fight for his services.
