Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang didn't travel with the Borussia Dortmund team to face Hertha Berlin amid speculation linking him with a move to Arsenal.

The Gunners are looking to replace Manchester United bound Alexis Sanchez and have seemingly identified the 28-year-old Bundesliga star as his replacement.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan is also expected to link up with Arsene Wenger. The Armenian midfielder is likely to be a part of a swap-deal for Sanchez.

Aubameyang moved to Dortmund from Saint-Etienne in 2013 and has racked up 134 goals during his four-and-a-half year spell.

Wenger briefly spoke about Aubameyang to reporters but Dortmund have hit back and labelled the veteran Arsenal manager as "disrespectful".

"We regard it as disrespectful that Arsene Wenger expresses himself about players of other clubs," said the club.

Sporting director Michael Zorc added: "There is no contact on our part with Arsenal. Arsene Wenger certainly has enough currently to deal with the performance of his own players."

Arsenal lie sixth in the Premier League table and have failed to win each of their last five fixtures in all competitions.

The real reason Aubameyang won't play vs Hertha Berlin

Despite being heavily linked with a move to London, Aubameyang was expected to travel to Berlin with the rest of the squad on Thursday evening.

Dortmund are set to play Hertha Berlin on Friday night and BILD have revealed the real reason why the Gabonese striker won't feature.

On Thursday, Dortmund coach Peter Stoger admitted Aubameyang was an "option" for the Bundesliga game - but insisted that he had to show the right attitude and work hard in training.

According to BILD, the 28-year-old forward trained so lethargically on Thursday that they had no choice but to leave him behind.

"He must stay in Dortmund, will train instead. He is not involved in the matter [vs Hertha Berlin]." said Zorc on Thursday night.

He's clearly pushing for a move to Arsenal - and his behaviour in training could end up forcing Dortmund to sell him.

Valued at around £60m, Aubameyang is the club's top scorer this season but has been suspended twice for disciplinary reasons.

He missed Sunday's 0-0 draw with Wolfsburg after he failed to attend a team meeting.
