Barcelona have been fairly prominent in the transfer market in the last year or so.

The Blaugrana saw Neymar leave for Paris Saint-Germain in a €222m deal and in response, they signed Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund for a fee that could rise to €147m.

They also brought in Paulinho from Guangzhou Evergrande for around €40m and in January, they’ve been at it again.

Philippe Coutinho was finally acquired from Liverpool, while highly-rated defender Yerry Mina has arrived from Brazilian side Palmerias.

Surely, they don’t need to make many more high-profile additions to their squad, right?

Well, that might not be the case, with Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann being rigorously linked with a switch to Catalonia.

Apparently, Barca are reserving the No. 7 shirt for him, with Coutinho getting No. 14, per Mundo Deportivo.

But, people may have been jumping the gun, with Barca releasing an official statement confirming that the rumours are not true.

BARCELONA'S OFFICIAL STATEMENT

It reads: “FC Barcelona strongly denies the information that appeared in the last few hours in different media about the Atletico de Madrid player Antoine Griezmann and an alleged link to our club.

“FC Barcelona expresses its displeasure at these events and reiterates all its respect towards the institution of Atlético de Madrid.”

Well, that’s thrown a spanner in the works.

It would be hard to see where the Frenchman would fit in Barca’s forward line, with Coutinho and Dembele already fighting to be the one to lineup alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have expressed an interest in Greizmann as well, so it will be interesting to see where he ends up in the summer.
